NEW YORK, May 24, 2007 -- For the first time ever, American Express will drive an exciting array of fan experiences onsite and online leading up to the 2007 U.S. Open® at Oakmont Country Club. With activities ranging from on-site hospitality for Cardmembers to interactive historical displays and the opportunity to play Tiger's Scorecard Challenge(1), American Express will enhance the experience for golf fans. U.S. Open® Experience presented by American Express This onsite interactive area, open to all attendees, will feature fine photographs, films and other memorabilia from the USGA collection, highlighting a variety of past and upcoming U.S. Open® Championship venues. The main attraction of the experience will be a scale replica of the famed 18th green at Oakmont on which golf fans can putt. The green will be surrounded by a collection of historic golf memorabilia, including: * Golf balls used by Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus in the 1962 U.S. Open playoff * Ben Hogan's 1-iron from the 1950 U.S. Open * Olin Dutra's 1934 U.S. Open medal * Spalding golf ball box with image of Bob Jones from the 1929 U.S. Open * Olin Dutra's miniature golf club from the 1934 U.S. Open * Johnny Miller's shoes from his 1973 U.S. Open record final round at Oakmont * Tiger Woods' wedge from the 2000 U.S. Open Photos of USGA memorabilia are available to the media upon request. While at the U.S. Open, Cardmembers can enjoy a "myLEADERBOARD"(2) handheld device to take out onto the course and track their favorite player (June 14 – 17) or relive the excitement of past U.S. Open Championships at the U.S. Open Classic Clips Viewing Station. During the entire week (June 11 – 17), Cardmembers who spend $200 or more on their American Express® Card at the Merchandise Pavilion can turn in their receipts and receive a commemorative poster(2) featuring select images from the USGA's book Classic Shots. American Express Cardmember Club American Express Cardmembers can view the tournament (June 14 – 17) in a private hospitality facility located between the 14th and 15th holes at Oakmont Country Club. Once inside, Cardmembers will have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction where they can bid on golf memorabilia and packages ranging from limited edition prints from the USGA's recently published Classic Shots, to hospitality packages to the 2008 and 2009 U.S. Open® Championships(3). This is the first experience of its kind ever available at a U.S. Open® Championship. Members Clubhouse Through the Members Clubhouse, a new online golf experience to launch on June 1 at www.americanexpress.com/golf, American Express Cardmembers can click their way to exclusive travel packages and gear as well as special access to prestigious golf championships.
